If you are looking for a low carb, delicious homemade bread then look no further. Today I introduce Cloud bread. It’s so simple to make and you get four (generous sized) slices for under 9 grams of carbs. It’s loaded with protein, and you can top it with whatever your heart fancies-from Marmite (my favorite), Everything But The Bagel Seasoning, Jam, Cream cheese – you name it.
So how did this bread come about? Mainly from time to kill and eggs to use in the kitchen. I did not invent this recipe, but I tweaked it to taste!
INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup liquid egg whites (you can use regular egg whites as well but I have found liquid egg whites to whip faster and better)
- 1 tbsp Corn Starch
- Topping options: Everything But The Bagel Seasoning, Cream Cheese, Jam, Marmite, or even fill with Sandwich options: Turkey, Ham, Bacon, Tuna etc. The opportunities are endless and you can use one slice as the top and one slice as the bottom for your sandwich.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Preheat oven to 300 degrees F
- Grab a medium size mixing bowl and add in 1 cup liquid egg whites and 1 tbsp Corn Starch
- Whip very well (for 5 minutes or so) until it forms peaks
- Spritz a tray ( I used a square baking tray) with butter or canola oil spray and pour in mix
- Place in oven for 20-25 minutes
- Remove from oven, let cool and cut into 4 squares
Incase you are more of a visual person, I also made a TikTok video and Instagram Reel creating the bread which I will link below. Just a small factor to note: I would not label this bread as low calorie if you are going to eat all four slices (Like I did) Dependent on your corn starch, the entire recipe works out to be around 170 calories (without toppings). So just be conscious of that if you are using it as a pizza base, or as a sandwich substitute.
