Finding good protein bars/powders when you suffer from digestive problems is hard. For years I have tried to find a protein powder that doesn’t leave me looking 9 months pregnant or having heartburn like I’m nine months pregnant (a lovely picture, I know I know..). It’s taken a lot of time, money, and googling to find what works and what doesn’t work. Here are the top 5 protein products that I recommend!
Bars
- Barebells Protein bars– Never heard of them? Nor had I! The power of Facebook groups. These bars are absolutely phenomenal (and that’s holding them to a high standard…) After getting diagnosed with PCOS, gaining a bunch of weight and finding out (the hard way..) that carbs are not my friend – I was on the search for a low carb protein bar that didn’t taste artificial. This bar checked all the boxes. It’s the perfect combo that melts in your mouth. Tastes like a Milky Way without the guilt involved. My top two favorite flavors are cookies & cream and White chocolate almond. At just 200 calories, 7 grams of fat and 0 net carb – these bars are guaranteed to be your new must have(s)!
2) BUILT BARS – Built bars will always be a go-to for me! They have a variety of flavors from banana nut bread, mint brownie delite, chocolate orange and chocolate mousse. In the need of some holiday treats? They just released two new flavors: Candy cane brownie and cookies’n’cream dipped in white chocolate. If you’ve never tried them before amazon has a sampler box or you can order them directly from the website and use code “MERCEDES” at checkout for a discount!
3. Smart Muffin– I know that muffin’s don’t classify as protein bars (or powder) but I had to include them. I have a massive sweet tooth and these are absolutely delicious. Think mini muffins in protein format. Even better? They are bigger than the palm of my hand, and perfect to have with a cup of tea for an afternoon snack. My favorite flavor is chocolate chip which is 99 calories and 0 net carbs. I also recommend the banana nut which has real roasted walnuts on top! If you’re feeling adventurous I also recommend sprinkling swerve icing sugar on top.
Powder
4) Dymatize ISO100 – This is without fail the best protein powder I have EVER had, which is making a bold statement because I have tried a variety of protein powders throughout the years. Not only do they taste (and blend) amazing but they do not cause digestive discomfort (aka bloating or pain). The powder is easily digested, fast absorbing and has 25 grams of protein 100% from whey protein isolate. I watched a variety of YouTube videos before purchasing the cocoa pebbles flavor and let me tell you, it bought back all of my childhood memories drinking the chocolate milk from the bowl (and half down my chin at the same time..) highly highly recommend the cocoa pebbles and cake batter flavor.
5) TRUVANI plant based protein powder – This protein not only tastes delicious but it’s also the purest protein I have come across. With only 5 ingredients you can’t go wrong. No fillers. No gums. Nothing artificial. I mix this in a blender with a cup of unsweetened almond milk and 1/2 a cup of ice for the perfect afternoon pick-me-up.
