Much like Instagram, the blogging world is quite over-saturated which is why I was hesitant to get my blog back up and running-but I love being able to share my journey and adventures with you all. Does it require vulnerability? Sure.. but I think we can all agree that life is unpredictable and can be taken from you in a whim.
2019 was messy. I broke up with a man that I thought I was going to marry, we moved from NYC to Long Island, Aspen transferred schools TWICE and the list goes on and on. I was determined to pick up the pieces and make 2020 the best year yet. In February Aspen and I moved into a house which feels like our forever home. Of course I’m bias here, it’s like agreeing your child is cute (“yes he has these big blue eyes and is so outgoing!”–yada yada yada) but I’m a true believer in signs and trust me-this house feels so right. In summary, it’s from the 1800’s, a 2 minute walk from the water and located in a lovely quaint town. Even stranger? The shepherd who owned this house (back in the 1800’s) initials were ABR (the same as Aspens).
The man I was with was an absolute gem but unfortunately we grew apart. I remain open minded for the future, but definitely learnt some lessons the hard way. The main one being, to never rely on an individual. I think everyone should know what they want with their life, and if you’re not on the same page with your significant other now-then when are you going to be? I was ready for marriage, a house, a dog and the first one fell through the cracks.
After months of trying to “repair” our relationship (last summer) one day it just hit me that I don’t need a man to live the life I want. It was daunting and overwhelming to learn to live life independently again. My ex (I won’t mention his name …just incase) was the only father figure my son has known – and watching his heartbreak was one of the hardest parts of all. I’m eternally grateful for my parents love and support whilst I picked up all of the pieces to get our life back together again, as a family of 2.
So with all of that said, I finally pulled the trigger on finding Aspen and I the perfect pup- just in time for his 6th birthday. After months of looking, we found “Bluebelle” she’s a little Cocker Spaniel from Ohio-and we can’t wait to spoil her..but the biggest takeaway from this post, is to know what you want from your life and achieve it. Whether that’s pursing passions, hobbies, or buying a dog. Life is too short to ever settle.
