I took this selfie last year, living in the UES on the 31st floor of our apartment. Quite frankly I thought I looked great. My fake tan was glowing, my fake Celines from Amazon were covering the bags under my eyes and my outfit was completely me. Simple with a message: I wanted to go to the Beverly Hills hotel.
If I had to pinpoint, summer was when my relationship really fell apart. Every little thing would turn into an argument (which wasnโt his fault or mine). I remember walking into our bedroom sobbing, looking for validation that he loved me. He sat there in silence. Itโs a moment Iโll never forget, and the reason I link this picture is because of his same reaction to my baby pink tee.
The look was questioned, and I simply expressed that โI wanted to go to the Beverly Hills hotelโ his response was that people aspire to travel to landmarks, and there I was wanting to go to the Beverly Hills hotel.
I wasnโt shy about my case. The Beverly Hills hotel WAS a landmark because Pretty Woman was filmed there. Did he not know who Julia Roberts was either?
We loved each other and he was a great man. BUT we were two completely different people on two totally separate pages.
At 28 and single, Iโm not one to give relationship advice BUT itโs important to keep your eyes and ears wide open. If your significant other is questioning why you want to get married one day: heโs probably not questioning your dreams and desires, but more so ..his future with you.
I was of course naive in thinking that time would change his mind, and that the 4 carrot diamond ring I had pinned on Pinterest was still going to happen.
Looking back, iโm glad that ring never happened: but I do wish that I would have read between the lines and listened to his (not so subtle) viewpoint on marriage. Communication is key to any relationship, and when that fades everything else follows.
