Prior to March, I always hated working out. I’ve been a member of Equinox (yearly commitments are a huge turn off), Lifetime Fitness (classes were blah) and even tried the Puree Barre App which I lasted 15 (whole) minutes into before laying on the floor like a starfish.
I never understood people that enjoyed working out, and secretly envied those who did. In February my boyfriend invited me to West Palm Beach for his 30th birthday. I decided it was time to get into shape and found a guilt offer for this class called “Pop Physique” It was conveniently a 15 minute walk from my office-and had incredible yelp reviews.
I remember pressing the purchase button on Guilt and from that moment, decided I was going to be committed no matter what. I had one month to complete 10 classes. By the end of the first class I was exhausted. I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but I purchased $12 Sticky socks futhering my dedication. “Squeeze and Tuck” were two new words in my vocabulary.
The website claims that you start to see results once working out 3-4 times a week. I took progress pictures to keep motivated and noticed that my waist was more defined by the end of my first month. What I really wanted was ab definition, something I hadn’t been able to obtain since Aspen.
Looking back this was probably due to my diet. Every morning after working out I would order a venti coffee frap light from Starbucks. It had been my guilty pleasure before finding out that the “sugar free” version has 29 grams of sugar. In April I decided to trade in my Starbucks addiction for a small skim latte at La Columbe. I also added more healthy fats such as avocado, salmon and almonds to my diet which helped combat sugar cravings. By the end of July/August I was still working out at Pop Physique 3-4 times a week and seeing clear definition in my upper and lower abs.
Ironically the reason I continued at that point was mainly for mental clarity. I couldn’t believe how much better I felt from working out 60 minutes a day, and the abs were a bonus! Im now on a first name basis with all of the instructors who instantly greet you with their bubbly personalities at 7am in the morning.
The class is broken up into 4 different segments and each instructor has their own technique/touches to differentiate themselves. They have studios all over the country and I can guarantee that after your first week-you will be as addicted as I am!
