I went back and forth on documenting this, because of how much judgment and assumptions there will automatically be – but let’s start with the fact that this surgery is medically necessary.
When I was 21, I was a little bit of a wild child. My fridge was filled with champagne, I was on a first-name basis with the bouncers at 1OAK and Provocateur, and to make a long story short: I was living in Lala world. So much so that my biggest responsibility was a Gold Fish (also named after a nightclub).
I was striving for perfection, and on a whim decided I would be much happier with a new nose. I remember showing my Plastic surgeon a photo of Paulina Gretzky. The surgery was over within an hour (red flag #1) and I went home drugged up on pain meds and sporting a nose splint. I don’t really remember the amount of pain that I was in, but I remember within a few weeks of getting the splint off – that my nose started to form bumps. I brought up my concerns to the surgeon, who was in denial of a botched nose job and used injections with filler to try and cover up all lumps and bumps.
Then when Aspen was around 15 months old, my nose got broken, which left me with a permanent bump, and even worse: pain, nose-bleeds, and difficulty breathing. I decided to finally see my Mothers trusted ENT doctor who is also a board-certified Facial Plastic Surgeon.
I spent about 2 hours at the consultation where he did a thorough examination of my Ears, Nose, and Throat. Then he handed me a mirror-like sleeping beauty and asked me what I disliked. My eyes immediately went to the bump. It turns out (which doesn’t come as a surprise) that there were much more severe problems going on internally than externally. He said he needed me to go and get a CT scan ASAP, and 5 days later I was laying in a machine (with a leopard print mask) getting one. The scan was painless but definitely claustrophobic.
As my surgery is next week, I’ve been googling what items are worth buying to help with recovery. Here’s what I’ve purchased so far:
