It’s been a few days since my last post and boyyy do I feel significantly better! Days 4&5 were brutal. On top of being felt like I had been hit by a bus – I felt drained and truly exhausted. By day 6 I was finally starting to feel better, and day 7 was time for the big reveal.
I have to admit I got no sleep the night before because of how anxious I was to get the splint off my nose! I must have watched about 24 videos of splint/packaging removal on Youtube so I was prepared for the pain and swelling. Once I arrived my Doctor called me into his office. Aspen was bribed with his iPad and Scooby Doo fruit snacks to behave ( at 8 am in the morning)
I sat in the chair and it was time. He delicately pulled the splint off and it felt a little bit uncomfortable but nothing too extreme. Then I was worried because he didn’t immediately hand me a mirror (like the doctors do on Youtube!?) instead he said it was time to remove the internal splints. In retrospect, this makes sense because his work was not only external but internal as well. He had to ensure that everything was healing correctly inside and out.
I laid my head back and closed my eyes. It’s kind of like being at the dentist and sometimes better not to look. Especially when you see tools and tweezers going up your nose. There was a lot of pressure and pulling and then…then I felt dizzy and lightheaded. My doctor said my color immediately went and ran to get an ice pack. He put it on my forehead and then lowered my chair so that I was laying. He then placed the ice pack on the back of my neck and within 10 minutes, my color had returned and it was time to remove the splint from the other nostril. The second one wasn’t as bad, but I still felt stuffy and congested. Apparently this is normal from internal swelling.
He ran his finger down my nose, squeezed the sides, then the tip and FINALLY said: It looks good. It was time for my sleeping beauty (or snow-white “mirror mirror on the wall”) moment part 2 he handed me a mirror and there I was looking at every different angle. My first reaction ” I love it! It’s so cute!” It was the button nose I always wanted. He pointed out how much swelling there was on the sides and tip but ensured this would go down over time. We took a few after photos and he said I looked 15 and that the nose really opened up my eyes. It did. I’m not sure what It was but I swear I looked 10 years younger!
As soon as I left the doctors I sat in the car and took selfies from every angle. I was thrilled with my results. I put together a before & after photo and intend on updating these weekly as the swelling starts to subside!
