Every time I make Aspen lucky charms for breakfast (more frequently than not) I have to eat the clover marshmallow and a unicorn before passing him the overflowing bowl. Don’t ask me why (especially when I’m so health conscious) but at this point it would feel strange not to.
I wish I could say that my self proclaimed OCD stops there but it certainly doesn’t. Even though I have no idea about statistics and won’t pretend to- I’m starting to believe that It could be hereditary.
Aspen also shows multiple markers. From having his Thomas trains a certain way, to the navy pillows on our couch lined up and having each and every label cut out of clothing (itchy or not).
So what exactly is OCD from a medical standpoint? To make a long story short-it’s Excessive thoughts or obsessions that lead to repetitive behaviors (thank you google for your educational definition).
Over 200,000 cases are diagnosed each year and so far there are no cures (just medicine or treatment to reduce anxiety). Medication is another issue. I believe it is given out to frequently and freely. Especially in a generation where addiction is prominent, but I’ll get into that another day.
