These easy cinnamon rolls baked from scratch are a recipe that you are going to want to bake and re-bake. You might even be sharing the recipe with your grandchildren one day. That’s how easy and delicious they are. You know when you walk past Cinnabon in the mall or airport? Well imagine your entire house smelling like that. Yep, rush to the kitchen, grab your mixing bowls and lets get baking.
Before you read any further I want you to know that this recipe does take time. You have to wait for the dough to rise, and then you have to roll it out, sprinkle cinnamon and a bunch of other steps before you can finally bite into your little taste of heaven. They’re perfect to bake on the weekend, or for your littles to bring on playdates.
Roll ingredients
- 2 and 3/4 cups (345g) All Purpose Flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 Tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 and 1/4 teaspoons Instant Yeast
- 1/2 cup milk of choice
- 1 Egg
Filling Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp cinnamon
- 3 tbsp melted butter
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
Icing Ingredients
- 1 cup confections sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 tbsp Milk
Instructions
- First you want to make the dough by mixing the flour, salt, sugar, and yeast together in a large bowl.
- In a separate medium size bowl, combine the milk, water, and butter together. Microwave until the butter is melted.
- Pour into the dry ingredient bowl that we started with and add the egg. Stir until it forms a dough
- On a lightly floured surface, knee the dough for 2-3 minutes and place in a lightly greased bowl (I used coconut oil spray), cover loosely and let sit for about 10 minutes
- Time to fill the rolls. After 10 minutes, roll the dough out in a large rectangle. Spread the softened butter on top. Mix together the cinnamon and sugar and sprinkle it all over the dough.
- Roll the dough up tightly and cut into 10 rolls
- Arrange rolls on a lightly greased 9 inch cake or pie dish
- Let the buns rise by tightly covering them with aluminum foil for 60-90 minutes
- Once the rolls have doubled in size, preheat oven to 375 degrees and bake for 25-28 minutes until lightly browned.
- Time to ice! Whisk the confectioners sugar, milk and vanilla extract together. Once icing forms drizzle over warm rolls.
