When I was a stay at home mummy I used to always bake. From beet root brownies to banana bread, you name it-I made it. My favorite recipe books were Deliciously Ella and Ella’s Kitchen. I found it theraputic and as a bonus-the food was delicious!ย
Yesterday the weather was cold and we decided to cook an asparagus orzo salad, homemade pizza and apple pie. I was skeptical but excited as Aspen is starting to enjoy helping in the kitchen. The recipe was as followed:ย
Ingredientsย
Pie pastry for a 9 inch pie
1/2 cup unsalted butter
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour1/4 cup water
1/2 cup white sugarย 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
8 Granny Smith apples – peeled, cored and sliced (we used mixed as we went to the Union Square farmers market)ย
dash of cinnamon (optional)ย
dash of nutmeg (optional)ย
dash of ginger (optional)ย
How To
1) Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Melt the butter in a saucepan. Stir in flour to form a paste and then add water, white sugar and brown sugar. Bringย bring to a boil. Reduce temperature and let it simmer.
2) Place the bottom crust in your pan. Fill it with apples.ย Cover with a lattice work crust. Gently pour the sugar and butter liquid over the crust. Pour slowly so that it does not run off.
3)Bake 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Reduce the temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and cover the crust in foil to avoid over cooking/burning. Continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes, until apples are soft.ย
