Whenever things go wrong or off track, I always turn to writing. It’s my outlet. My safe space. What isn’t safe in a quaint little town? dog walks. Let me explain further: last year I had a scary situation happen when an older man followed me in his car. Almost a year later to the date the same man followed me, in the same car with the same doll hanging from the windshield. Once again he saw me, stopped his car, rolled down his window grinning and did a U-TURN following me.
Thankfully my friends husband is a private detective but I will be taking many more precautions. It also worries me that this could happen to another woman, or a teen/child in the neighborhood. You always think that once you get to a certain age you are “safe” but the truth is that creeps do not discriminate. There is no safe age.
After the incident, I decided that I would start carrying my birdie alarm out with me (which has sat in my kitchen draw unused). Well unbeknownst to me, these things can run out of battery even if they are never used. I pulled the two pieces apart to test it, expecting a high pitched alarm and strobe lights (that have a seizure warning) only to hear..absolutely nothing but bluebells paw prints behind me.
So of course in typical Mercedes Fashion I stated to take the device apart and realized this was far too complicated and unreliable as it had no sensor to notify you of a low battery. I did my research and decided to buy a Vantamo instead. You can charge it by USB, and it has a sensor for when the battery is running low. It’s less cumbersome than the birdie, and clips right on to your keychain. They say that a single charge can last 6-12 months so my advice would be to put it in your calendar as a reminder to charge it every 6 months.
Of course I still have thoughts circulating in my head of what would have happened if I wasn’t paying attention that morning. If I wasn’t walking my dog, my headphones were in or I was in my own little world texting. It’s unsettling to say the very least, but I think it’s an important matter to bring attention to. There are a ton of alarms like this on Amazon to choose from but for $19.99 it’s worth the peace of mind.
On a happy (and much different) note: I found out some wonderful news yesterday which I can’t wait to share. The power of prayer is real.
I’ve been busy working on so many brand deals, creating content, and re-learning how to edit with CapCut when using my DJI-OSMO pocket 3 so that I can use it more. Buying this camera was an investment, yet I find it so much easier to just film with my iPhone for instant gratification and editing. I’m trying to change my mindset around the entire thing and just get more comfortable filming in public with a foreign device.
Yesterday a neighbor posted in a local Facebook group that they were selling their family home and that she had a table of free books outside. I didn’t intend to go but coincidentally drove past while dropping Aspen off at school. I was delighted to pick him up some Harry Potter books, and some books for me to read on days that I have treatment. I started with Leaving time which according to google was published in 2014 and has been rated 4/5 stars.
This year I’ve found it very difficult to get back into reading. Every book I get into I’m not “into” by the 100th page or so and just have no momentum to pick it up again. I know that the remedy is to find a book that I do enjoy and hope that this will happen soon. I always say that I get very bored easily, and apparently this applies to books as well!
Anyway it’s good to write again. As always you can find me on LTK here or instagram for daily posts. Stay tuned for my newsletter The Friday Brief (I’m continuing this Friday-thanks Nanna for always reminding me that it’s overdue!)
