Buying or selling a home should be an exciting experience and having the right realtor by your side who knows the ins and outs of the market is important.
So how do you choose the right realtor?
- Choose the person, not the experience. Remember you are going to be spending a lot of time with your agent. From phone calls, text messages, house hunting and more. Itโs important to click with your agent and remember that just because someone has a lot of experience under their belt doesnโt necessarily mean that they should be your agent. In fact choosing a newer agent on a reputable team could be a better move because they have more time for you.
- Find someone you can trust. You want a real estate agent who has your best interest at heart. If youโre being honest and transparent about what youโre looking for in a house and your agent is sending you completely different options, it may be a clear indicator that theyโre only in it for themselves rather than you.
- Go with your gut! Iโm a strong believer in trusting your intuition. In business and in life, if something doesnโt feel right then it probably isnโt.
- Look at their work. How is your agents marketing? Values? And passion? Pay attention to their website, branding, brochures and attitude. Why? Because marketing plays a key role in selling your house, and you want your agent to represent you with a positive, go-getter attitude.
- Check if they mitigate risk. You need a real estate agent who is realistic and can proactively mitigate risks, not one who is just in it for a sale. Your agent should be communicating real data to you in terms of neighborhood-level market performance and the long term impact of buying/selling etc.
