What is Clubhouse? Clubhouse is a brand new social media app Created by Paul Davison and Rohan Seth and funded by venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz. It’s an audio only app. Almost like a live podcast/giant phone call, and when I say giant I mean over 100+ people which could include Oprah, Mark Cuban or Chris Rock (just a few names known to have been spotted-or should I say heard on the up and coming app).
As a social media manager, I knew that I had to gain access to the invite only app. The good news is that you can reserve your handle without an official invite (exactly what I did before gaining an invitation a few short hours later, and exploring the app in depth). A new social media app is similar to getting a new game as a kid. You set up your profile, explore, and “play!”.
Benefits Of Clubhouse
The great thing about Clubhouse and the timing of the app is connection. Something we are all lacking in 2020. Unlike other social platforms, there’s no private messages, comments or video-which means if you want to be heard-you have to use your voice.
As you enter a room, you hear ongoing conversations. If you raise your hand, you might be called up on stage to join the discussion and if you enter a room realizing that it’s not for you? well you have an option in the bottom left corner to leave quietly.
Your perception of the available content on clubhouse depends on who you follow. To diversify your content experience, you can search for keywords that interest you and start following those people. What I did was find another social media marketer using the app and browsed who they were following. Within seconds I had access to a list of like-minded people and read there bios vetting who to “follow”.
Nothing in the chat is recorded, so when the room ends that conversation is permanently gone, but the wisdom that you could gain amongst “strangers”? well that’s something that you’ll remember forever. Want to learn more? I highly recommend this article on socialmediaexaminer .
