As I walked to school this morning walking past headlines, I couldn’t help but glance. “NYPD spoils stoner buzz”. Apparently over the last decade, 400,000 people were arrested for possession of marijuana and cops have spent approximately 1 million hours of their time arresting 440,000 people claims the drug policy alliance. This week, New York State legislators are supposedly considering a proposal by Governor Andrew Cumo that would make the penalty for having a small amount of marijuana in public view, a violation instead of a misdemeanor. According to the report, cops spend up to over five hours arresting someone for possession, and after an arrest police must bring back the handcuffed person, book them, take photographs, fingerprints and then write up a report. Alfredo Carrasquillo an organizer with vocal-NY said that “We cannot afford to continue arresting tens of thousands of youth every year for low-level marijuana possession” so is this beneficial to cops, or a go ahead to youngsters or “stoners”?
Cumo is also on a mission to raise the states minimum wage to $9, within the next three years. The current minimal wage is $7.25 an hour, but according to the deal, it would increase to $8 next year, $8.75 in 2015 and reach $9 by the start of 2016, says the New York Post. The democrat believes that the current wage is not enough to support workers lives, but opponents have argued that the economy is much too weak to handle a minimum wage hike, and that small businesses will be hurt. State republican leader Dean Skelos said on Monday that the deal also includes $700 million new tax cuts for businesses and family.
If you hate Twinkies, love Twinkies, couldn’t care less about Twinkies or never tried a Twinkie (like me) it seems as though the “Twinkies, Ding Dongs, and Wonder Bread” may soon be back in stores. The news comes after a bankruptcy judge yesterday approved sales of several iconic brands that had been owned by the hostess brands inc. The two buyout firms Apollo Global Management and Metropolous & Co teamed up for Hostess “snack cake brands” by paying $410 million.
Selena Gomez was on the David Letterman show Monday, and when Letterman joked that he made Bieber cry, Selena said “well then that makes two of us.” She also was quick to add in that she is “single and so good” while promoting her newest film “Spring Breakers” Miley on the other hand is adamant to address the rumors that she’s single and apparently back to wearing her engagement ring. Lets see how long that lasts!
