How to celebrate valentines day single. We’ve all been there. Loathing the lengthy posts on instagram, seeing red roses everywhere, and lengthy newsletters telling you what to buy for your significant other. One of my exes notoriously labeled Valentines Day as a “Hallmark holiday” . So this really set the tone for me in my early twenties.
Now? Now, I’ve learnt to evolve and appreciate love in all its forms. Usually I buy Aspen a little gift, we make “valentines” for his class, and have a fun dinner together. He usually makes me a craft at school and has started to buy me little presents with his allowance (yes he is the sweetest, and yes he will know better than to EVER call valentines day a Hallmark holiday. To his future girlfriends: you’re welcome.)
1. Treat Yourself to a Spa Day:
This is the first year I decided to do this, but I have to say I’m really looking forward to it. Not only because it’s a 60 minute massage, but because after lots of research i’m finally going to try a Lymphatic Drainage massage.
2. Plan a Solo Adventure:
Go a mini-adventure. Explore a new city, go skiing, take a hike. There are so many things that you can do that don’t revolve around romance per se.
3. Host a single night in :
Gather your single friends and decide on doing something fun together! You could easily host a dinner or make a Charcuterie board and watch some movies.
4. Volunteer in Your Community:
Spread love and kindness by volunteering your time to help others. Whether it’s serving meals at a soup kitchen, visiting residents at a nursing home, giving back is always rewarding.
5. Indulge in Your Favorite Treats:
Calories don’t count on holidays right?
6. Have a Movie Marathon:
Or a show marathon. Which if you have any recommendations for me please let me know in the comments!
7. Practice Self-Care:
Take time to focus on yourself and practice self-care. Whether it’s journaling, meditating, pilates or a long bubble bath. I always feel so much better after a long shower, eye mask and Pure Barre Class (Stay posted for a review on this too!)
8. Start A New Book
Maybe it’s my age, but recently I have been loving books. Sure Reese Witherspoons book club may have been the culprit, but none the less I’m currently reading The Housemaid series,
9. Try Something New:
Step out of your comfort zone and try something new. Sign up for a cooking class, or take up a creative hobby like painting or pottery. If you have a little one (yes Aspen will always be my little one even though he’s 9) this is definitely something that you can do together.
10. Reflect and Appreciate:
Take a moment to reflect on all the love and blessings in your life OUTSIDE of a romantic relationship. Be grateful for everything that you have, and not the one thing you don’t.
Whether you choose to follow in my footsteps and pamper yourself with a spa day, spend quality time with friends, or embark on a solo adventure, embrace the joy of being single and go ahead and buy yourself some flowers.
